Service Team Conference

Girl Scouting wouldn't happen if it weren't for volunteers. To help our volunteers get ready for the new Girl Scout membership year we want to give you as much information as we can so that you can bring quality Girl Scout program to your girls.

The Service Team Conference offers a number of great workshops ranging from Girl Scout Traditions and Ceremonies to the New Volunteer Mentor team position training. This conference is for volunteers that either need their team position training or are looking for other workshops to help them in delivering that quality Girl Scout program. This conference is open to any volunteer that would like to attend.

Participants will choose a session to attend during a morning and afternoon workshop session. Please bring a bagged lunch!

 

 
 

 

 

 Workshop Descriptions

 
  • Session 3: 2:20 PM - 3:20 PM
    • Girl Scouts provide numerous opportunities to recognize adult volunteers. Learn the various levels of awards from troop to GSUSA. Become part of a team who provides the pathway to Thank Leaders and other Adult Volunteers.
      Ceremonies can commemorate accomplishments or simply make the beginning or end of a group's meeting special. Girls can plan a ceremony around a theme, such as friendship or nature, and express themselves in thought, words, or song. Whatever its purpose, every Girl Scout ceremony enables girls to share Girl Scout history and traditions and create their own special memories.
      Girl Scouts is steeped in traditions. Traditions are the handing down of information, beliefs, and customs by word of mouth or by example from one generation to another without written instruction. Learn the traditions that built Girl Scouts and be a part of passing them on.
      Would you like on-line help in working your way through a Girl Scout Journey with your girls? The Volunteer Toolkit is just that. You tell it what Journey the girls would like to work in and the Volunteer Toolkit will come up with a year plan for you!!! This workshop will give you a demonstration of the New Interactive Volunteer Toolkit.
      This workshop is for New Volunteer Mentors or SU Learning Facilitators that haven’t facilitated a Troop/Group Welcome.
      Girls just want to have fun and traveling is a great adventure for them. In this workshop you will get great ideas for traveling to awesome locations. Learn the guidelines needed to be followed when traveling with girls, what insurance forms need to be used and how to insure the girl’s safety at all times.
      Pulling your hair out when you are working on your Troop Finance Report? Not sure what goes where? Let us help make it all add up! Get hands on training of how to get organized and be prepared to complete this task.
      Join us for an informative session where you will learn about the programs available for the upcoming Girl Scout year. We will discuss Community Partnerships as well as Series, STEM, Travel and other initiatives.

      Do your girls like the outdoors? Did you know that there are new outdoor activity badges? Did you know that Citrus Council has 6 different properties? This workshop will cover all of these things and give you ideas on how to get your girls to go Outdoors and Explore!
      It’s hard for someone new to start a conversation with someone they don’t know. Learn how to encourage communication with your volunteers, build strong teams and promote a cohesive environment for all to thrive. This workshop will give you new and different techniques to bring this together.

      Music is the universal language that has no boundaries and brings people together. There are some special songs that are just for Girl Scouts, camping, team building, and sisterhood. This workshop will help you learn some of the basic and fun Girl Scout songs. Let the girls sing!
      Don’t have a girl committee in your service unit? Looking for leadership opportunities for older girls? Looking for girls to get involved in the dynamics of the service unit? This workshop will guide you in how to form a girl committee.

      Enrich your life as you help to change the lives of young girls across Central Florida. Become a recruitment volunteer! This session will offer a comprehensive training on how to table, present to parents and help young girls and adult volunteers become part of our thriving organization. A required session for any new recruitment volunteer who joined after August 31, 2015.

  • Session 1: 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM
      Discover the New Service Team format, Connect with opportunity and Take Action to building a streamlined Service Team. The new Communication Coordinator, Administrative Support and New Volunteer Mentor positions will help build a balanced and manageable team. This workshop will go over the descriptions and responsibilities for each of these 3 new positions so that you can Discover, Connect and Take Action on your passion.
      Troop Mentors provide on-going support and coaching to other troop volunteers. Sharing how to do’s and what not to do’s. This workshop will give you the perspective to be a support to other volunteers. Through this role we can build opportunities to retain and strengthen leaders.
      The SU Learning Facilitator will assist the New Volunteer Mentor with the facilitation of the Troop/Group Welcome as well as hold enrichment workshops and roundtables as needed in their assigned jurisdiction. This workshop will go over how to facilitate a Troop/Group Welcome as well as give ideas on other enrichment and roundtable topics.
      The SU Finance Coordinator handles Service Unit funds, records, and reports in accordance with Girl Scouts of Citrus Council’s guidelines. They are primarily responsible for the financial education and support of all troop/groups within the assigned jurisdiction creating a positive culture of financial literacy. This workshop will focus on fraud prevention through discussion of current banking policies, account signers, finance reports, money earning project requirements, Scouterships and more.
      As the Service Unit Events Coordinator you’re responsible for overseeing the planning and implementation of event offerings at the Service Unit level, ensuring high quality experiences for girls that are aligned to the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE). This workshop will give you some creative ideas, how-to plan an event, know what forms need to be used and putting safety first.
      Geared for all GIFTs chairs, participants at this training session will learn fund-raising and communications techniques to effectively conduct the family campaign within their service units. Topics include: why the council has a fund-raising campaign; how it benefits the girls; Q & A's; and how to manage campaign reporting. We have developed many new recognitions and reporting to ensure the best GIFTs campaign ever!
      Do you know what Safety Activity Checkpoints are? Did you know that there are guidelines in place for most GS activities? Did you know there is a list of unauthorized activities? Come to this workshop for an overview of all of our Safety, Risk Management and Travel/High Adventure policies and guidelines to help you make this the best and safest Girl Scout year for your girls. Other items we will be going over: Travel/High Adventure Insurance, Approved and non- approved activities & vendors.

      We are revolutionizing our membership strategies! Join our session to learn how membership and recruitment are going to evolve in the Fall and train our volunteers on their new roles and responsibilities. This workshop would be ideal for those who already attended our Recruitment Training Rally in August.
      Join us for an interactive fun workshop about all things STEM! You will dive into STEM activities to understand what all the excitement is about. Learn ways to bring STEM to All girls even those who don’t think they like it! Just bring your excitement, enthusiasm and the passion to learn and we will bring the rest!
