Girl Scouts introduces girls of every age to science, technology, engineering, and math activities that are relevant to everyday life and career planning. Through programs such as Junior Aerospace Badge Workshop or Space Adventure Day in partnership with NASA and Kennedy Space Center’s Exploration Station, educational activities focused on science and math are provided.

Girl Scout STEM Series give you a hands-on opportunity to learn about emerging fields in science and technology. From building robots to attending engineering events, meeting female scientists, visiting Kennedy Space Center, Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and the University of Central Florida and much more.  STEM Series events help set you ahead of the mark in these exciting fields that are generally underrepresented by women. You don’t need to be a science whiz or a computer nerd to have fun – STEM Series events are for everyone, regardless of your favorite subject in school.


STEM Program In A Box

Would your troop enjoy learning more about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM)?  Would they like to launch a bottle rocket, create an “eggstronaut”, or make their own galaxy?  Check out our STEM Program Boxes!  Each box is equipped with all the supplies you’ll need to run a successful educational program that enforces science and engineering concepts.

Each box requires a $10 deposit – you’ll get $5 back when you return the box and all materials in good condition.  We’ll replenish consumable supplies such as paper, glue, crayons, etc.  A few activities require edible materials – those will need to be purchased separately.

Activity:  Design a Mission Patch
With this kit, girls will have the opportunity to learn about past mission patches and their purpose. Plus, they will have the chance to create their own patch. Kits include previous mission patches which can encourage girls to express their creativity with their own design.

Looking to become an ultraviolet detective? This kit is perfect for your troop!  The girls will enjoy making these colorful bracelets while learning about the effects from ultraviolet (UV) light. Try out the experiment to capture the girls’ attention with the effectiveness of sunscreen.

Looking to explore Newton’s Laws of Motion in an exciting way? This is the kit you need! Its straight forward, hands-on approach will teach girls Newton’s Laws of Motion while allowing time for experimenting and, of course, fun!

Activity:  Sun Paper Plate Craft
Younger Girl Scouts will adore this kit. Hopefully they won’t mind the use of their hands to help create this glowing masterpiece. Girls will have the chance to learn some “Sun-Sational” facts about the sun too.

Engaging girls is the key with this kit. Girls will have the chance to create their own Milky Way Galaxy while learning some interesting facts about this spiral galaxy.

What do Eggs and Space have to do with each other? That’s exactly what your troop will be wondering if you don’t check out this kit! The girls will have the chance to create and test their very own capsule. Allow them the chance to explore the impact that gravity and drag have on instruments and humans.

“One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” These famous words were spoken more than 40 years ago. This activity kit engages the girls with a fun project while teaching them more about Apollo 11’s landing on the moon.

With this kit your troop will explore how mass can affect the flight of rockets. Girls will collaborate and experiment to try and send their rockets flying high.

Activity:  Searching for Meteorites
This kit provides girls the opportunity to access various terrains for meteorite recovery using geography skills. They also will work together to predict possible outcomes for their experiment.

Every wonder what the behind the scenes process for how NASA searches for water on the moon feels like? Well this is the kit for you and your troop! Teams will work together to create their very own Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite (LCROSS). As they test their design they may have to improve it a few times until they achieve the ultimate goal.

Did you know you can make a speaker from a paper plate and a few other materials? By using this kit your troop will have a better understanding about sound. Don’t forget to “look” for sound as you feel vibrations that the speaker generates.
