outdoor program/environmental education

Brownies are helping to make the world a better place by volunteering at a local watershed event.

Many activities, including the camp experience, are designed to give Girl Scouts opportunities to learn the importance of nature and the environment and to recognize their personal stewardship responsibilities. Through hands-on and field experiences, girls can build personal skills, investigate careers and perform community service through projects and activities that benefit the environment and the Earth’s limited resources.

Outdoor education activities are carried out in outdoor settings and are an important part of Girl Scout program for each age level.  Desirable outcomes include:

  • Enhanced understanding and skill development.
  • Increased awareness and understanding of the human interrelationships with the environment.
  • Development of outdoor recreation interests and skills for creative use of leisure time with minimum impact to the environment.

Today, girls are involved in many, varied outdoor activities. These include outdoor recreation activities, wildlife education, and camping.  At Mah-Kah-Wee and Riverpoint program centers, Melbourne Scout House and Celia Lane Little House there are environmental programs that the girls can participate in and receive a patch.  For more information, click here.

Also, Citrus Council offers a wide variety of outdoor/environmental opportunities for girls.  View our Spring 2013 Schedule for Camp/Outdoor Program Pathway for a complete listing of activities which encourage the girls to Discover, Connect and Take Action in becoming informed and good stewards, or see below for detailed information.
