Kennedy Space Center Presents 2012 Salute to Girl Scouts Celebrating Girl Scouts 100th Year Anniversary – Did you know that 60% of today’s astronauts were active Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts? To honor the troops that inspired so many of NASA’s astronauts, Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex presents Salute to Scouts, a special event to inspire the next generation of explorers. Salute to Scouts – March 31, 2012; Overnight Adventure – March 31, 2012. Click here for details and registration.

2nd Annual Girl Scout Summer Splash Bash Celebrate the start of summer with EXCLUSIVE use of Wet ‘n Wild’s
amazing rides all night long at an event just for Girl Scouts! Plus: A live DJ playing your favorite songs by request, contests and games, prizes, a special commemorative patch, unlimited soft drinks and a delicious ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT Breakfast are all included! Friday, June 8th 2012, 10 p.m. – 6 a.m.  Check out the flyer for all the details.

 

 

Ongoing Community Partner Activities

Healthy 100 Kids Patch –  Girl Scouts of all ages are eligible to earn the new “Healthy 100 Kids” patch created in partnership with Florida Hospital for Children. Click here for the requirements. Girls need to complete 7 activities out of the 14.  There is no minimum per section – just a total of 7 activities.  The patch is $2.00.  Checks can be made out to Florida Hospital for Children and should note “Healthy 100 Kids” in the memo field.  Checks can be mailed to the attention of Laura Grubbs, Florida Hospital, 2520 North Orange Ave,  Suite 200, Orlando, FL 32804.


History Center
Self-Guided Tours
Come visit the History Center and discover Central Florida’s past.
Location: Orlando
Cost: $4 per Scout, $5 per adult (free admission ages 4 and under). Scouts must wear identifying attire. History Center patch available for $2 each.

Guided Tours

Tour the History Center with a guide who will challenge you with questions, make you think, and help you on your journey through Central Florida’s history.
Location: Orlando
Cost: $6 per person (free admission ages 4 and under). Scouts must wear identifying attire. History Center patch included with admission. We must meet minimum of 10 participants.

Get It G.I.R.L
Want to experience fun activities with other girls your own age? Want to make lifelong friendships? Want to help with community service projects and have fun doing it? Have you considered that maybe the “Get It G.I.R.L.” program is just for you? The Pi Psi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is partnering with the Girl Scouts of Citrus to bring you a program that is like no other. You will meet many different girls your own age and make tons of friendships along the way. Lets’ not forget all the cool field trips you will be able to take, such as having a lock-in or even learning how to cook in a restaurant.

Over the series of couple of months you will meet with other girls and members of the Pi Psi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. You will learn how to better prioritize your goals, give back to the community and skills to becoming a successful leader all while having fun. So do you want to be a part of this program?

Camp Out under the World’s Largest Rocket!          (Grades 2 – 9)
Bring your sleeping bags and dream under the gigantic Apollo/Saturn V Rocket. Learn about the past and future of space exploration. Meet and talk with an astronaut, perform a hands-on, minds-on Team Engineering Challenge, enjoy a private screening of a 3D IMAX film and learn the details behind NASA’s new Constellation Program – all led by our Overnight Adventure instructors. Program includes pizza dinner, midnight snack and continental breakfast.  Exclusive Girl Scout Program will offer Try-It, Badge and IP links.

SeaWorld Girl Scout Course The Great Outdoors D B  J
Encourage young girls to bring a curiosity as big as all outdoors to come explore it. How do animals survive on their own? What makes Florida wildlife different from animals in other parts of the world? How have animals like polar bears accelerated adaptation to keep up with rapid climate changes? We’ll explore questions like these as we gain a greater appreciation for the homes Mother Nature creates in the great outdoors during this 2-hour course.  Plus, explore the great outdoors of SeaWorld.

Dinosaurs           D  B  J
Guide yourself through walkways and explore a land filled by 150 dinosaurs (badge earning opportunities available), go on a guided dig for fossils to take home, see a unique dinosaur movie in the caves exhibit, unearth a life size dinosaur skeleton in the Bone yard, walk thru the Skeleton Garden, see the Prehistoric Museum, enter the Carnivore Boardwalk if you dare, cross into Deinonychus Island, and learn all that you can about these animals from long ago. As you take this trip through time, complete requirements for several badges.

Student Astronaut Training Experience at KSC
Student Astronaut Training Experience immerses your Girl Scouts in the world of today’s astronaut as they experience a mission simulation and hands-on space activities. At the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame (near Kennedy Space Center), Girl Scouts engage in space exploration briefings, hands-on training, motion-based simulators and a full-scale Space Shuttle mission simulation. All designed to prepare your Girl Scouts for the rigors of spaceflight.  This program is designed for teams of 13 – so get your friends together to be in the same mission crew.  If you don’t have 13 – no problem – they’ll put you in with other non-Girl Scout participants.

Look and feel your best, Dining Manners, Telephone  & Social Etiquette, Thank You Notes and Proper Introductions ($20 per girl/ 2 hour class)


Posture & Runway-Ages 6 to 17 years
: Proper Introductions, Poise & Proper Posture, Beginning Runway, Walking with Confidence, Video Taping, and Building Self-Esteem ($10 per girl/2 hour class)

Public Speaking-Ages 6 to 17 years:
Speaking in front of a group, Building Confidence, Video Taping and Critique ($10 per girl/ 2 hour class)

Commercials & Acting: Ages 5 to 17 years:
Performing on camera, Cold Reads, Auditioning on camera, Slating, and Mini Interview ($10 per girl/ 2 hour  class)

Each session has a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 25. With the exception of the make up & skin care class which is limited to a maximum of 22 due to room size.
