100th anniversary event highlights

 

Girl Scouts of Citrus Hosts 5K Thin Mint Sprint

The Girl Scouts of Citrus and volunteers from Brevard County hosted a 5K run/walk entitled “The Thin Mint Sprint” on Sept. 10 at The Avenue in Viera. Over 700 Girl Scouts, families, and adults participated in the race as well as the after race party.

Jonathan Brown, 18, of Merritt Island finished first overall with a time of 19:02, while Girl Scout Jenna Hindsley, 16, of Rockledge finished second with a time of 22:53.

Once the race was completed, a large after race party was held throughout The Avenue featuring bounce houses, carnival games, delicious treats and special prizes.

The Thin Mint Sprint was the first of a series of events celebrating the Girl Scouts’ 100th

Girl Scout Jenna Hindsley came in second place and was the overall female champion.

The Great Gathering

Nearly 3,000 participants filled the Volusia County Fairgrounds on Jan. 21st as event chair, Dana Allen, opened the Great Gathering festivities.

Visitors had an opportunity to check out the Girl Scout museum display, cookie memorabilia, Girl Scout shop, timeline, add an item to the time capsule and were treated to an entertaining fashion show of vintage and current Girl Scout attire.
