Box Oven Cooking
Box Oven Cooking is the ideal cooking method for someone who’d like to cook meals outdoors a little beyond the usual hot dogs on a stick, but doesn’t want to invest much money or take a lot of trouble. Join other adult volunteers to learn and try new recipes for the box oven.

Campfire Songs
It’s always fun to sit around the campfire and sing. Spend an evening with other adult volunteers to learn both new and traditional Girl Scout songs. Handouts will be available with song lyrics. You can also bring your tape recorder to record the song as they are being taught.

Compass Course
Mah-Kah-Wee Program Center offers girls of all ages several opportunities to learn how to navigate using map and compass skills. This class will teach adults the skills needed to help the girls learn how to use a compass and then navigate the compass courses located on the property.

Dutch Oven Cooking
Working in small groups, you will learn to cook in Dutch ovens by preparing a multi-course meal, enjoy a fantastic lunch and discover how fast and easy clean up can be. Leave the course with a full tummy, great memories and the confidence that you are prepared to share techniques, recipes and much more.

Fire Starters
Fire starters are a useful camping tool; they are easy to use and much safer than lighter fluid. Don’t forget the charcoal chimney to get those briquettes red hot! Best of all is your box oven, ready to cook just about anything you can imagine. This class give adult volunteers the opportunity to make fire starters, a charcoal chimney and a box oven, all to take home after the class.

Geocaching Course
Geocaching is a fun sport that involves using a GPS unit to find a hidden treasure called a cache. Mah-Kah-Wee Program Center is home to more than 35 geocaches waiting to be found by our girls. This course will teach the adult volunteer how to use the GPS units that are provided with the Geocaching kit and then you will use your new skills to locate several of the caches.

Knots and Knives
Knowing how to tie knots and properly use knives are two essential outdoor skills. This class is for adult volunteers who would like hands on experience practicing their skills with knots and to learn how to care and use a knife to ensure the safety of users, other campers, and the environment.

LNT Awareness Workshop
Leave No Trace (LNT) is a program created to educate people about our natural environment and how to protect it The Leave No Trace principles are guidelines to help us make a difference in preserving our natural outdoor resources for future generations. Through this awareness workshop, you will learn about Leave No Trace and understand its importance to our society. By understanding and practicing these principles, we are enhancing other people’s outdoor experience.

Lashing
Lashing is used to build without nails useful simple structures like a tripod, a chair, a flag pole, etc. This workshop is for adult volunteers who would like to learn lashing techniques to build a variety of items all with sticks and rope!
