Internships
Welcome to Girl Scouts of Citrus Council's student internship program. We are very excited to be working with local colleges and universities to bring students into our organization and give them business experience with a personalized focus for each student and the student’s major and interests. Academic credit hours are being given whenever possible to those students who join us. In addition the students will be participating in leadership development seminars hosted by Citrus Council.
We are looking for interns to help with our Lego® Robotics teams and our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) program. A detailed description is outlined below. First Lego® League Robotics Teams -- Girl Scouts of Citrus Council currently hosts 7 all girl First Lego® League (FLL) Robotics teams. The first group of teams competed during 2009-10. The teams work with coaches and mentors who help engage and encourage the girls in their pursuit of excellence in the field of robotics. Our Robotics 101 education program is in its infancy stages and needs the help of a dedicated intern to help develop and facilitate it to Girl Scouts along with present FLL team members and coaches/mentors and dedicated adults.
Robotics teams and our new robotics education program need support in research, technology, computer programming, development of delivery techniques and materials as well as the hands-on building robots and the competitive needs. Development of the Robotics 101 program will be a lead task for this intern.
Requirements include proficiency in Excel and Word as well as attention to detail. Ability to work with girls of all ages. Ability to allow middle and high school girls to take the lead when they feel comfortable in the new programs. Any science based field: robotics, space studies, aeronautical, mathematics, or engineering will work well with this internship.
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) -- The STEM program is a delivery of technology based education to Girl Scouts. This program is hands-on and very interactive to engage Girl Scouts and increase their interest science based careers.
The purpose of the program is to increase science based programs available to Girl Scouts of Citrus Council. Develop community partners in science related fields. Development of this science based program would include research, development of training/activities and materials for girls in multiple grade levels including list of activity pieces, supplies, etc. and building a STEM box in support of new programs, if the they portable. Currently programs are developed through NASA and Kennedy Space Center, Delaware North Parks, First Lego® League and the Society of Women Engineers. All of these programs require development of future program ideas as well as the need to facilitate the completion of new program. This position will also work with the STEM Training Team, which is comprised of Citrus Council middle and high school girls and their adult mentors. This team delivers programs in a variety of ways which requires support in checking program boxes in and out; and inventorying and making sure all program boxes are complete for future use. Working with the STEM Training Team to deliver both old and new programs also would be included in this internship as well as mentoring girls in science based fields.
The intern would research and development of new programs in science based fields including development of program pieces and putting together program boxes for check out by the team. Strong computer skills using Excel and Word a strong plus. Ability to work with girls of all ages.
