If you are an adventurous 21st Century teen, Girl Scouts has something for you!

Photo of girls in kayakCitrus Council offers a variety of leadership development opportunities for teens to discover themselves and others as they explore the world around them. You will connect with new interesting people and make new friends. If you find that you are passionate about a specific issue or topic, in Girl Scouting you will find the resources, skills and abilities to take action!

As a Girl Scout Cadette (grades 6-8) and Girl Scout Senior (grades 9-10) or Girl Scout Ambassador (grades 11-12) you could:

•  Go on a journey that will help you figure out high school and its drama.
•  Travel around the world through our destinations program
•  Learn about nature, beauty, technology, the arts, music…(the list goes on and on)
•  Develop your leadership skills.
•  Tap into your talents and share them with the world.
•  Make new friends by participating in year round events.
•  Explore careers and prepare for the college life!
•  Improve your skill tools in awesome trainings!
•  Help make the world a better place by being part of service projects.
•  Achieve your goals through the Studio 2B program.
•  Earn your Girl Scout Silver Award or Girl Scout Gold Award: Project Proposal and Final Report.

NASA 2008 INSPIRE Program -- Applications are being accepted for NASA's new program, the Interdisciplinary National Science Program Incorporating Research Education Experiences (INSPIRE) that will encourage the future generation of explorers in grades 9-12 to pursue and education and careers in STEM fields.  INSPIRE STEM experiences include a one-day VIP tour of a NASA facility, a two-week learning experience on a participating college campus, and paid summer internships at a NASA facility.  Deadline to submit an application is Dec. 31.  For more information, click on this link: http://www.nasa.gov/audience/forstudents/postsecondary/programs/INSPIRE_Project.html

Your NASA Dream Experience:  A nationwide contest as seen in Seventeen Magazine is open for applicants until midnight Dec. 15. A team of 2 students (ages 16-20) and an educator/sponsor will earn the opportunity to spend 3 days at either Johnson Space Center or Kennedy Space Center on a job shadow and behind the scenes experience during the spring of 2009. Daytona 500 Experience -- This is a great day to spend with family and friends.  Hang out in the museum, watch the a movie on the IMAX screen, tour the track and soooo much more!!! Older Girls earn the “On the Road” and “Fast Track to Automotive Careers” Interest Projects.  The event will be held Jan. 17-18 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Girls and their families can attend either day.  Click here for the registration form or call Mandy Wyrick at (386) 681-4251.

Wyoming's Wildlife Wonders is a travel opportunity (destination) where Girl Scouts ages 13-15 travel to Wyoming to study the ecology and natural history of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Girl Scouts hike, canoe, and trek through the Grand Teton, Yellowstone National Parks and Bridger-Teton National Forest. Teens observe wildlife, participate in a national bird-banding effort, explore environmental careers, and take action by developing an environmental project to implement back home in their community. Thirty girls across the nation will come together for a week at the Teton Science School to learn in an amazing environment about nature, each other and themselves.  For more information, see this flyer.
